VIRTUAL SAMBA SUPERSTARS BACK ROVERS' FANS CAMPAIGN

Samba superstars Ronaldo and Ronaldinho were to the fore in the latest Reclaim the Rovers event on Sunday. World Cup winners Brazil were a favoured choice of many of the 60 gamers from all over Fife who took part in the Reclaim the Rovers World Cup at Harlem in Kirkcaldy.

In fact both finalists, David Mackay and Shaun Smith, played as the World Champions, who were also represented by one of the beaten semi-finalists.

After over 9 hours of intensive competition, David and Shaun squared up in the final to provide an 11 goal thriller, with David running out 6-5 winner only after Shaun missed a penalty in injury time!

David was also the Golden Boot winner as the tournament’s top scorer on 39 goals and his prizes for winning included a copy of the new Pro-Evolution Soccer 5, a bottle of champagne and various PES 5 goodies. Shaun meanwhile will have a crate of beer with which to contemplate his last gasp penalty miss!

Rovers star Iain Davidson turned up to lend his support to the event taking on fans in a PES4 penalty shoot-out challenge.

Organiser Allan Traynor said: “It’s been a fantastic event with a great atmosphere. We’ve also raised over £400 for the campaign through entry fees and sponsorship.

“I’d like to thanks everyone involved in helping out but particularly Gamestation in Kirkcaldy for providing the equipment and the games and Harlem for providing the venue and a host of prizes.

“Everyone enjoyed the afternoon and hopefully we can do this again soon.”
